25 years ago (August 25th), Michael Schumacher made his debut at the Belgian Grand Prix, now he’s still fighting for his life.
Another pole for Rosberg, while Hamilton got a 55-place cumulative penalty. Drivers are allowed to use only five of each of the six constituent parts of the engine in a season, but Hamilton had consecutive failures from the MGU-H – the motor-generator unit that recovers energy from the turbo, in the races in China and Russia. That meant he had already used five turbos and MGU-Hs, and was always going to need to take new ones in the second part of the season. Mercedes has opted to deliver three new power units, which is a 30-place grid penalty. Hamilton was given his sixth internal combustion engine, his sixth MGU-K, an eighth MGU-H and an eighth turbocharger. These have added a further 25-place drop. With nothing to lose, Mercedes broke the seal on his gearbox before the race to allow him to use a fresh one at next weekend’s Italian Grand Prix (5 more places drop).
for exceeding the number of legally allowed power components. Alonso got a 35-place grid penalty and Ericsson 10 places.

It was a chaotic start as Verstappen got involved in an accident with the 2 Ferrari drivers, while Button and Wehrlein also collided and were forced out of the race.
Sainz was also forced to quit after suffering a right rear tyre blow-out on lap 3, and on lap 6 Magnussen slammed violently into the barriers and the safety car was deployed, but with extensive repairs required, the red red flag came out. By that time Ericsson was also out of the race.
The race began with the safety car on the track and until the end of the race, we had no further accidents or dropouts.
Verstappen was involved in the most exciting moments, but it wasn’t enough to score points (he was 11th).
Rosberg won quietly, Ricciardo was 2nd and Hamilton taking advantage of other drivers problems, closed off the podium places.
It was another beautiful race for Force India with Hülkenberg in 4th (equaling his best result obtained in Belgium in 2012 and Korea in 2013) and Perez 5th. Ferrari had to settle for 6th place with Vettel and Räikkönen was 9th, Williams for 8th (Bottas – the day he turned 27 years old) and 10th (Massa). Alonso had a remarkable race to be 7th, after starting from 22nd place.
The Debutant Esteban Ocon (Manor) finished the race in 16th place.
Next week we will have the Italian GP.
