The last Ferrari victory happened in April 2013 at the Chinese GP and the last one for Vettel in November 2013 at the Brazilian GP.
Today the team led by Maurizio Arrivabene, planned a perfect strategy, based on two pit stops (compared to 3 for Mercedes) and won with all the credit.
If Vettel won, Räikkönen also had an excellent race. After being 11th place on the grid, on lap 2 he had a puncture after an incident with Nasr, but recovered to 4th place, behind the two Mercedes cars of Hamilton and Rosberg.
19 cars started the race at Kuala Lumpur (Stevens was the only driver not to start) with the Spanish Roberto Merhi making his debut for the Manor Team.
4 drivers didn’t finish the race. Ericsson, the two Mclarens (Alonso on his return to F1 and Button) – the beginning of this season is a complete disaster for the team – and Maldonado also retired.
There was no rain (a rarity in the Malaysian GP), but the safety car on lap 4 came out after issues with Ericsson and this is where Vettel began to win the race by not going into the pits to change tires.
It was a great race full of overtaking with Williams doing a good job (Bottas was 5th and Massa 6th). Toro Rosso “hit” the Red Bull (the relationship between Renault and the team has seen better days) with Verstappen in 7th (at 17 years and 180 days, he became the youngest driver ever to score in F1), Sainz in 8th while Kvyat was 9th and Ricciardo only 10th.
Sauber (with Nasr finishing 12th) and Force India (Pérez was 13th and Hülkenberg was 14th) did not follow the good performance in Australia. Grosjean was 11th and Merhi took his car until the end, finishing in 15th.
