Review of The Mexican GP by Pedro Cunha
After 23 years of absence, F1 returned to Mexico last weekend (Mansell was the last winner of the Mexican GP in 1992).
The Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez is situated at over 2200 metres (7218 feet) above sea level, that means that the thinner air moves across the cars more easily.
Massa set the highest top speed of the season (364.3 km / h – 226.3 mph).
4th consecutive pole for Rosberg and his 4th win of current season with Hamilton in 2nd (10th “one in two” for Mercedes).
An interesting race and a bad day for Ferrari: Both Maranello drivers had to quit (it´s their first double DNF since Australia in 2006 (!)) – On Sunday everything went wrong: Räikkönen dropped out on lap 24 after a collision with Bottas, and Vettel had to quit on lap 53 after hitting the barrier at turn seven (which forced the entrance of the Safety Car) – The German driver had already suffered a puncture on lap one after an accident with Ricciardo, on lap 18 he spun and had an off track excursion on lap 26 – it was his first abandonment this season after a disastrous race.
Bottas reached his 2nd podium of the year as he was 3rd, followed by the Red Bull drivers: Kvyat and Ricciardo. Massa was 6th followed by Force India’s Hülkenberg and the local driver (Pérez). Verstappen and Grosjean completed the scoring places.
Apart from Ferrari, other drivers who had to give up where Alonso and Nasr.
Within two weeks, F1 will travel to Brazil for the penultimate race of this season.
