The first Austrian GP took place in 1963 on an Airfield – as did the following year. After an interval, F1 returned to Austria in 1970 (Österreichring) and was part of the calendar until 1987. F1 returned to the Österreichring – which was modified, between 1997 and 2003. After another break, the championship returned last year to Austria – this time on the renamed Red-Bull Ring.
As for the race this year, we had the seventh pole for Hamilton and the third victory for Rosberg this season. A fabulous start from the German driver meant that he was in front and never let it go, as Hamilton – with a 5 second penalty for crossing the pit exit lane after a pit stop, took second place.
Apart from the two Mercedes out front, we had a fantastic race where there were fights for every single place with numerous overtakes.
The race began with a violent incident between two former world champions (Alonso and Räikkönen), forcing the safety car to come out.
In a race with six dropouts (Alonso, Räikkönen, Stevens, Button, Grosjean and Sainz), Massa scored his first podium of the year (the 40th of his career) benefiting from a disastrous change of tires by Ferrari, which put Vettel in 4th place.
Bottas was 5th and Force India were pretty good (Hülkenberg was 6th and Pérez 9th).
Maldonado after an incredible but creepy overtaking move, ranked 7th in front of Verstappen, while Ricciardo in 10th completed the scoring places.
Within two weeks, Formula one will move to England.
Current Standings:
