Review of the US GP by Pedro Cunha

F1 2015 US GP.

US GP number 37, and for the 4th consecutive time in Austin (over time F1 has “visited” 6 circuits in America). Hamilton claimed his third title after a thrilling race.

Hurricane Patricia threatened the GP all weekend (the 2nd free practice session was cancelled and the qualifying (with rain) took place only Sunday morning – Rosberg the fastest driver on Q2 took the Pole, as Q3 was cancelled due to heavy rain.

Fortunately the race took place, and “wow”, what a race! – The Ferrari drivers dropped 10 positions on the grid due to an engine change penalty and had to settle for 15th (Vettel) and 18th place (Räikkönen).

During the race we saw 8 dropouts (Stevens, Bottas, Grosjean, Massa, Raikkonen, Ericsson, Hülkenberg and Kvyat)

The safety car made 4 appearances, on two occasions the virtual one (lap 5 to clean the debris after a collision involving the 2 Sauber drivers, and on lap 38 after one accident involving Hülkenberg and Ricciardo), and twice the real one (on lap 27 as Ericsson stopped on track with an electrical failure and then on lap 43 after a huge crash involving Kvyat).

Several leaders: Hamilton, Ricciardo, Rosberg, and again Hamilton, provided us a ‘delicious’ race, full of emotion, great overtakes, mistakes, with Rosberg finishing in 2nd, Vettel in 3rd, Verstappen in 4th, Pérez 5th, Button 6th, Sainz 7th, Maldonado 8th, Nasr 9th and Ricciardo 10th – Only Alonso (11th) and Rossi (12th) did not score.

Almost everything is decided, but we still have three more races until the end of current season – Next week F1 will return to Mexico after 23 years of absence.
