Review of the Russian GP by Pedro Cunha

F1 2015 Russian GP.

Carlos Sainz suffered a huge during the 3rd practice session, and he was transported to hospital but fortunately without any consequences (he was allowed to participate in the race). Rosberg claimed the pole.

The race was a mixture of excitement, accidents and time penalties as Mercedes win their second consecutive constructors title.

Right at the start an accident involving Ericsson, Hülkenberg and Verstappen led to the abandonment of the German and the Swede, forcing the entry of the safety car.

Hulkenberg and Ericcson crash.

On lap 7, Rosberg retired with throttle problems, opening the way for an easy victory by Hamilton (his 9th this season).

On lap 12, the safety car returned after a violent accident involving Grosjean.

Romain Grosjean crash.

The whole race was very good and it does not end without another incident: on the last lap, the Finns Räikkönen and Bottas were fighting for 3rd place. When they collided, Bottas left the race and Raikkonen was able to take his car to the end (he was 5th, but after suffering a penalty of 30 seconds for causing a collision he dropped to 8th).

In a race with 7 dropouts (Hülkenberg, Ericsson, Rosberg, Grosjean, Ricciardo, Sainz and Bottas), Vettel was 2nd, Pérez was 3rd (the first podium of the current season for Force India and the 3rd in the team’s history – the first was in Belgium in 2009, where Fisichella was 2nd, the 2nd was last year in Bahrain, as Perez achieved a 3rd place), Massa was 4th (after qualifying in 15th place), the Russian, Kvyat, was 5th, Nasr 6th, Maldonado 7th (all promoted one place after Räikkönen´s penalty), Button was 9th and Verstappen 10th (following a 5-second penalty to Alonso for exceeding track limits).

Sergio Perez.

It was a great race and Hamilton is getting closer to his 3rd world title.

Lewis Hamilton.

Within two weeks the F1 will return with the US GP.
